How to Prepare for a Productive Kitchen Design Meeting

Prepare enough information to make the meeting specific, but do not delay the first discussion because every detail is undecided. Clearly labelled unknowns are more useful than guessed measurements or selections.

01

Bring a concise project brief

Describe the room, property location and main problems you want to solve. Add photographs, a rough plan and any existing architectural information. List appliances as confirmed or provisional. Share your timing and investment context so the team can assess the scope realistically. Choose a small number of reference images and explain the exact detail you like. A large inspiration folder without notes can make it harder to identify what matters most.

02

Identify the decisions you need help with

Rank layout, storage, appearance and coordination questions. If several people approve the project, agree on the main priorities before the meeting and identify who can make final decisions. Bring alternative Studio concepts when they clarify a genuine choice, but do not expect the model to replace a field survey or shop drawing review. Explain which parts of each concept are important and which were simply convenient defaults in the tool.

03

Leave with an action list

Ask what information is still required, who will provide it and what happens after it arrives. Record any scope boundaries, site questions or selections that remain open. Keep the current documents and conversation in the agreed project workspace. A productive meeting may end with a request for appliance details rather than a complete design, and that can still be a useful outcome. The measure of progress is whether the next decision is clearer and the required inputs are assigned, not how many finishes were selected in one session.

Keep this checklist

Your next useful steps.

Prepare a short brief
Label uncertain inputs
Rank the open decisions
Identify approvers
Record the next actions and their owners

Three questions to bring.

  • Which three decisions do we most need help with?
  • Who in our household makes the final decisions?
  • What information will we owe the team after the meeting?
About this guidance

Meeting preparation guidance. A first meeting can end with a request for information rather than a finished design, and that is normal.
